no one is hiring. Times are tuff. A buddy of mine makes $86 000 a year on salary and he is working 2hrs a day 2-3 days a week. He is about to get laid off.

I know of crap companies that do crap work for crap money, but sometimes the work is rewarding... yeah right! Your in the area where the work is right now - i mean actual work, getting dirty type stuff. Believe me Im from upcountry and had to go down there for a couple months for work. Unless your willing to leave home for weeks at a time. Go to job sites with your gear and tell the people you want to work. I dont hire anyone who sends resumes or phones, you gotta come to my sites and show your willing to go at 630 in the AM. Just show your willing to bust your ass!

Another good way to go is to show up EARLY with all your gear. Offer to work for the day for free. If you work hard and the person is needing workers you will probably end up getting a job out of it.

reinforcing steel companies are good places to go on Mondays after payday. We always had guys not show up after the weekend and needed people. If you're willing to work hard, you could show up and weasle a job out of them. Look for cranes to find sites.

No sense in offering to work for free... its illegal to hire if your not covered by componsation, the compo paperwork costs more then one would save on a days wages for a labourer. If you got hurt on your first day of work ( 75% of accidents happen the first day) the company would lose everything without you being on their compo, no legit compay would go for that. As well if you show up too early and no one is on site the prospective company could be fined heavely, for not having representation with someone who has not been orientated, then try getting a job after the owner gets ripped because of a guy he's never met. Make sure you have the proper PPE for every site, and the OK from someone before you go wandering around. just my two cents.
