A note on heavy items shipping

OK, I've had enough. I ship items alot with my home buisness, and seeing alot of people here who wont ship someting because it's big and bulky, or "I dont know how much it will cost and don't have time to get quotes" Well, In Canada, Greyhound is one of the BEST shippers for large bulky items. They often ship CHEAPER than postal, as well as FASTER. I have had tires shipped from Campbell river for less than $60. 2 tires with rims. Drag race tires to boot.

Another Plus of GH, is they have a thing called Freight Collect. Meaning, you, the shipper can put items on the bus, and the buyer pays the shipping charges once he/she goes to pick them up. Saves ALOT of hassle and running back and forth.

Just a note for all those who are having a hard time selling equipment, but wont ship. chances are, someone wants it, and they are just a bus ride away....

Also, Email Interact is GREAT for money transfers. If you do ANY banking online, you can do Email Interact. COsts buyer/seller Nothing, unlike Paypal. Transfered directly to your acct, and 100% safe

I have shipped some thing in the past. I think my biggest hang up with shipping is the damage that might occur during shipping. As a private seller I'm unwilling to take the risk. This is for acrylic stuff and things that can be damaged.
As for GH it's over 45 minutes 1 way for me to drop something off at a depot. Really isn't worth my time.

I understand the frustration of seeing something you would like and the person will not ship, but I just wanted to point out 2 things that are my reasons for hesitating on shipping

Totally true.

The only thing I cant stand with greyhound, is like Jason said, the treatment of the items being shipped. Every single Item I've had shipped to me through them, the box comes out looking like it has been drop-kicked across a football stadium. Its ridiculous. I cant stand that.

But otherwise, yeah, they are very quick and easy.

makes sense but i always figure that if i ask someone to ship on greyhound and on the off chance it gets damaged its my responsibility. unless it is just poorly packaged before shipping.

Same here, every single item!! It might get here quicker but it always looks like it's been put through the ringer and sometimes my items end up elsewhere, hours away from my location.

I can only comment on my latest experience with Greyhound. I had a 48 inch constellation fixture sent to me from Victoria to Airdrie. I was worried but all in all i purchased the insurance for the amount i paid for it and it arrived in 4 days and completely okay.
Yes we have had other bad experiences but i feel that the pack job is the key to this. That fixture was wrapped in heavy plastic and then had 2 layers of bubble wrap on it and was then placed on thick foam that was on top of peanuts. Yes i am sure it was extra work but it made it here great.
In the end the shipping and insurance was 45.00 from B.C to here.")

Hey Funky Fish,your assumption is right. I have seen Greyhound employees punt boxes across the floor.While waiting for some custom sheet metal parts for CN,I witnessed a employee kick a box repeatedly across the depot.He didnt know the box was for me as it had just come in so he was suprised when I asked him to open the box. The parts were rendered useless.I let him speak with my boss. Hundreds of dollars for the stainless plus shipping plus 2 more days out of town plus expenses.You could see his ears melting as my boss SPOKE to him.

Wow - Harsh, and incredibly inconvenient - but I laugh at the guy who thought it was a good idea to boot it around. Bet he was a bit more careful after that!

I have used Greyhound for receiving things from Vancouver and I have been really happy,
never had a problem. Most of the items were fairly heavy, some not...... I would not
hesitate. I like how fast it is.
