When I was on a well, my large particulate filter, {same model}, had a lot of crap and sludge in it at change time but never red like theirs.

![]() If it is not iron bacteria and just iron it will depend on if it is ferrous or ferric iron in the water. An water softener will only take out ferric iron, if it is ferrous he may need a chlorine injector or a chemical free iron filter to get rid of the iron. It sounds like ferrous if there are stains on the fixtures and trim. The iron is oxidizing as it comes into contact with the air, turning it to ferric iron and staining. Just my thoughts.
