Default Crushed corals for a FOWLR tank

I would like to change my chiclid tank into a FOWLR. If I am not going for a DSB, can I re-use the crushed-corals after a good wash? Please advise.

I used cc when I first started both the reef and the FOWLR.

The only thing with crushed coral is it traps so much detritus, that you really have to vacuum it when doing water changes. Mine still had a lot of life in it, worms , pods, etc. back where I couldn't vacuum.......

And as far as it being used...my personal thought is that wouldn't be a problem.

Guess a lot depends on the type of fish as well....some FO specimens need a softer substrate...etc.

Em brings you good advice. I find that most FO or FOWLR tanks have quite "dirty" fish, like triggers or lions, which consume a lot of food etc. I have seen many tanks with CC and they really just trap fish crap or uneaten food. Go with something more medium based like aragonite or mix the two. Good luck!
