Default Some Whale pics from my last trip

As some of you may know I work on Tug Boats and these are some pics I took from my last trip. It was a 10 day trip from Masset on the northern tip of the Queen Charlottes back down to the Fraser River.

The first bunch are some Humpbacks Feeding. As some of you may have seen on TV they blow bubbles in a circle containing the prey in a curtain of bubbles and then they come up through the middle and chow down. You can make out the bubble ring in the first shot.

They are not as clear as I would like but the second bunch of Orcas are better.

Spectacular!! The only whale pictures I ever seem to get turn out as a little black dot in the middle of the frame, and then you tell people "This was a whale!! 10 seconds later he breached!! But my camera wouldn't take the picture. " And then they look at you like you're some kind of lunatic. "Yeah, right, a whale. UH HUH...."

Absolutely stellar photos! Thanks for sharing.

wow that is pretty incredible. I love the bubble ring shot. I once saw a small humpback... 30 ft or so... in Sewells marina. Breached about 5m from our little aluminum skiff! of course i have no pics... but it happened (honest!).

Thanks everyone.

It was a incredible trip, I have never seen so much wildlife on one trip. Not that I've been doing this for long but even the old timers were saying the same thing.

The Seals, Sea Loins, Sea Otters and Orcas were one thing but the amount of Humpbacks was Awesome. There were literally hundreds and hundreds of them. I don't know the state of their endangerment but they must be making a comeback.

It was a bit tricky getting the shots with them moving the boat moving on the water and the vibration of the Tug, I was hoping they were better but I guess I'll have to take more next trip.

Catherine - Yeah my D80 and with my old Tamron 75-300 Tele-Macro lens.

Jason - it can be cool at times. I have some Seal shots that turned out from when we went diving on the 1st, I'll post them tonight if I get time.

Tony - I hear you on the little black dot thing, I have thousands of those also. I was lucky, out of the 20 or so pods we saw only the Humpys feeding and the Orcas let us get anywhere close to them.

Justin - We saw a few breach also but was not ready with the camera....D'oh!
