![]() i am an idiot maybe this will help it is the fist paragraph of my essay
I believe the purpose of John Pollack’s thought experiment is to evoke questioning of reality. The “brain in a vat” concept gives way to questioning of reality and actuality of existence. In the story the protagonist goes on to search for one of his good friends, and upon finding him he discovers his friend Harry’s brain being hooked up to a super computer in a vat. After being caught we discover that Mike is the reason Harry has been abducted, it was all a ploy to get Mike to the clinic. Mike than finds out that his brain has already been taken out three months ago, he is let go with emerging questions of his own reality, if he still has his brain in his body, or if he is living in a computer program. What this thought experiment is trying to illustrate is if we can prove that we are in our own controlled reality or if we are being deceived into thinking we have control over our own reality. There are many concepts of reality, such as we are living in a dream world, or we are in a computer program, a figment of someone else’s imagination, or we are a character in a story. John Pollack uses skepticism in his “brain in a vat” concept to show that you can’t honestly answer or negate some of these possibilities, or possibly prove that you are in control of your reality. |

![]() im not sure if this is what your looking for but if the question is can scepticizim be overcome? can you use emotion and feeling of those in your surrounding to prove reality? like testing and studying others to see if they show actual emotion, as no computer could perfectly replicate emotion and feeling, as no one can build a super computer better than god,(our brain)

![]() ahh but if you started arousing supspitions about you reality the computer could do many things such as : 1 deleteing that thougt. 2 causeing a major reaction. 3 giveing you what ever you wanted. 4 or just tell you you are stuck in a vat and there is little you can do

![]() kgb what's your major? i've never taken a phil class, probably should at some point in time if i can fit it in. although some of it seems really absurd. i mean, why bother even asking these questions, whether we're actually here or not, we're going to continue as if we are...

![]() not true. if you if i was the main charater in some one else book say about philosophy you would be a way by means i would show a certain philosphy to the reader. also you might not be actually alive and you only think because my body is trying to communicate with my self. there are many more possibilities. and beside can you think of a better answer then the asnswer of the meaning of life
