Default Sump Baffles

Is it better to have the water leave from the bottom of the skimmer (1st) chamer then go over and back under ( the middle baffle would determine the depth of the water in the skimmer chamber OR have the skimmer chamber sealed at the bottom and have the water go over /under /over withthe 1st baffle determining the depth of water in the skimmer chamber ?
I would think the skimmer would tend to skim the smae water if the chamber was sealed at the bottom and the water flowed over the 1st baffle. However if it goes under, whats to stop all the "crap" from just flowing through/
What's the better way to go ?

I do over-under-over. This keeps alot of the bigger gunk from going back into my tank.

For the sump chamber to the return chamber go under over under. For the fuge chamber go over under over. The final over being a short drop to your return section max level orelse you will make bubbles.
