Default A thought !

I was cruising the buy and sell area and noticed Raf made a comment that a fish was overvalued based on the prices at one of the LFS.

I just thought I would suggest that in my experience that a fish that has been already acclimated into captivity and is feeding well, etc is far more valuable if healthy than anything you can go rip from the wild, transport for some 20 plus hours and sell in a LFS, mine or any other store for that matter.

Just a thought as I watch the canucks up 2-1, or I mean even at 2-2.

I agree with this opinion as well. Even though a retailer has a large mark-up on fish typically, I would gladly pay the equivalent price for a fish that has been in an actual tank over one that has been shipped.

here here..... its about the quality not always about the price.... the most important thing is the health of the fish, not how cheap it is (although.... im scottish and new here......this goes against my tradition.....)

I would rather pay those few extra pennies knowing that if i take livestock home, that its healthy and feeding and will have a greater chance of survival rather than another place selling it cheaper with a much lesser chance of survival due to stress and health...

... cannucks? is that....like a basketball team or something?

basketball?! *jaw drops* ah well you're new here, i guess i can forgive you this ONE time... they're only the best freakin hockey team ever (ours)! and they're playing right now in the playoffs. first game of the first round.

i must agree wendell. quality fish is a very important thing to me as i HATE when people get fish that are unhealthy and they die... and then another fish is bought... and another. frustrates me.

i like buying fish only after i see that they are eating a kind of food that i know i can supply them with and that they will be able to survive on in the long term.

I think the allure to online fish/coral vendors is that they can often offer much rarer specimens than youd see in a lfs. online, you can just surf their website and see what they have. for an lfs (given they don't show complete stock on their site or just don't have a site at all), you gotta drive out to see exactly what they have. I suppose it's a bit of a convenience issue too.

We in the lowermainland have had it good for a number of years, two major LFS's have been competeing very aggressively for our $$. One store buys in such volume they make money on other items like dog foods, and other pet supplies while making less on saltwater fish/corals etc. The other store deals only with salt water fish and supplies so their profit margin is much lower, however they still compete in the price war.
I've made the drive to OA and have to say for the product and service it's worth the drive regardless of the price. I don't spend thousands of dollars, I'll pick up a small SPS frag, maybe a book or something else but yes the drive is worth it, even from Maple Ridge.
Wendell, I agree completely, a fish that's established and is in good health is surely worth more than one that has just been shipped from hell and back, subjected to cold temperatures, medicated, drugged, starved and then to add insult to injury left to sit in its' own waste or the groups waste for a day or two, then dumped with out ceremony into a tank at the LFS that may have larger fish, more aggressive fish, more territorial fish, or sicker fish in it.
We've gotten spoiled I think, not that I'm complaining.

I think a fat healthy fish is worth more too.

However, it comes down to finding them a place sometimes, I view them as pets and money shouldn't be an issue to finding a good pet a new home.

Actually if anyone remembers, comments in the buy/sell are suppose to be related to the purchase or selling of an item and not outside comments regarding pricing, etc.

There are two of those in that particular thread.
