Default Cannister filters

I was sitting yesterday when I heard a strange noise when I smelt plastic burning. One of my fluval 404 had sprung a leak like a water fountain all over a power bar.I ended up getting a couple good shocks.I am pretty ticked. That is the last time I use one.I was wondering what canister filter is safe from burnig your house down.

It started pouring water out of the seal.

Default shock?

Would it not be easier to have the circuit on a GFI then risk getting shocked?

You just don/t think a filter out of the blue would start leaking water like a garden hose.I just gave two fluval 404 away for free.I didn/t feel right taking money for them.I think I should of destroyed them.

-I've had a 403 for 6 years (retired last year as was a little loud, but still works like a charm) no leaks.
- my 3 year old 304 never had a prob.
- my 1.5 year old 305 perfect.
- my 4 year old 203 still purring away
- my FX5 is amazing.

I noticed you need to be careful and not force the tops on the 403's as you can crack or damage the seal which would cause your little mishap. You have any more you would like to "" throw away pm me.

I thought I was luckey.I have been in this hobby for12 years,So many of my friends have emptied there tanks on the floor because of these filters including myself.I thought when they changed from the round to the square type that they were on the right track. All I can say is look out.

It was a few years back, and I hope they have improved, but I would never see a Fluval or a Rena as an option ever again. And it was a Fluval that knocked my husband back across the room...but I think the Rena ended up pouring out more water...
