Default Starting Nano Tank

We have just started a 29gal Nano tank. Bought 37 LBS cured rock. It's been cycling in the tank for a week now. We added 2 hermit crabs and 3 snails. We have just been noticing live organisms in the rock and are wondering if they are good creatures or not?
They look like centipedes, long with lots of legs and look furry. We have no fish yet, so I am thinking once we add fish they will probably eat them.
All levels have been good. Thinking about possibly adding a fish this weekend.

One other thing i have noticed is it looks like a BTA. Very small and white. In the morning when no lights are on it is open and extending. When the lights come on it closes up for awhile then it will open up again. Any recommendations on what i should do or a better placement in the tank and will it grow to be a larger size?

Any thoughts on thse creatures and the BTA are greatly appreciated.

Thanx again. I love this site, there is so much good information and everyone is so willing to help one another.

Sounds like bristle worms, most are good, a few are bad. They eat left over food, ditrius (fish waste) and dead fish etc... Some are bad though but IDing them can be difficult. As far as the BTA type thing it could be a Majano, could be a mushroom that got missed, could be a lot of things, pictures would help.

One of the best sites i found when starting up was this...http://www.xtalworld.com/Aquarium/hitchfaq.htm ... took out a lot of stress over worrying whether the new beastie was going to kill everything. Heres another good one http://www.melevsreef.com/id/

I remember the first time I got liverock, I spent HOURS looking over my liverock finding all sorts of stuff on it. Even 6 months afterwards, I still found new stuff amongst the rock as some of the tiny critters reached a size that I could actually notice them, and others breed enough in my tank that there's enough to spot.

I have the mantra of innocent until proven guilty unless you see it salivating over your corals

Have fun watching the rock

Thank you to you all for the info. Those are some really good websites.

It looks like I have bristol worms and a Asterina star. Learned something new again today.

I still have not figures out what the other little guy is but i don't believe it is the hydro .... whatever. I will try to post a picture but we need a zoom lense for our camera. We got a couple but not great. Wiil see what we can do with them.It has an orange color base then the tenticle are white with a small white round tip.

And ya I do spend time staring at the rock to see what is moving or see if I can see anything else that is alive.

Happy Reefing
