Default DIY Phosphate Reactor

Not too sure where to post this thread, but I am looking for parts to build a phosphate reactor. I know that the basic blueprint is like a calcium reactor, so I am looking for prob. 4" diameter pvc/acrylic/abs pipe.

Also has anyone tried to make one out of an old fluval canister, one of the old round ones? Would that work? If so I can build one right now.

you could make one out of a canister filter but the only problem would be that the flow going through the media has to be very slow, I have a max jet 400 running at aroud 1/3 the flow through mine.
The Two Little fishes phosphate reactore is not that much money and if you have a spare power head kickin around it would be better to just buy a new one.

A canister filter can work great, sandwich the media between foam layers and you can even run carbon in another layer.

Another phosphate media that is supposed to be really good is Warner Marine PHOSaR it's pelletized so it works even better in a canister.

I've always wondered if you could do anything with those crappy pasta express thingys. Its about all they're good for.

Chuckle...Ive been thinking about that for inside my 5 gal water jug skimmer. I'm going to have a series if tubes progressively smaller for the bubbles to go through creating extended contact time. similar concept as sump baffles but with progressivly smaller tubes.

HEHE they are good for something...but notta pasta!!

Yeah I checked out the old fluval of mine, and it sounds like it would be too much work for the moment. I might just go buy a two little fishies phosphate reactor for $45, and use a spare mj 400 that i have.
