Default Taking Black trim of a tank?

I have a 90g tank with the tyipical black from around the top. I was wondering if anyone saw a problem in me tanking it off. Its made of 1/2" glass and has no bracing.

Most tanks that I've had with black trims usually had the problem of the trim popping off. I really don't feel that the plastic trim adds much support. Granted, my tanks like this were all well under 90 gallons. I'm not so sure about larger tank trims.

I'd add a glass brace or two, though.
