How much salt per gallon?

How much salt per say 5 gallons of water for a mix. I always finding myself dumping more and more to get the right mix.

I am just looking for somewhat of a basis.

2.5 cups of salt per 5 gallons seems to get it bang on for me.

I think it depends on the salt. I use Red Sea salt and for 5 gallons I use exactly 2 cups

for instant ocean it's 1/2 cup per gallon of water, puts me at about 1.024

it depends on what salinity you want and what the tempeture of the water is.
