I like Steve's idea myself, except instead of scanning them I would simply cut out the 1 or 2 worthy articles out of each mag, then just get a few 3-ring binders a hole punch and archive them that way

Goodluck!

My two cents would be...
Don't scan the real old ones, as reefkeeping technology has increased ten fold over the years.
All you old hats, think back to when you first started reef keeping and the equipment that was used back then. I'm fairly sure you would shake your head at using some of that equip now on your tanks.
On the flipside. It would also be cool to document the changes and mentalities of reefkeeping throughout the years.

Why not get people to help you? I mean you work hard to copy these yes. But think of the money you have spent of them. Burn them to disk you could sell the disks for 10 bucks/set. If people help you scan give it to them for free. Be quicker and easier right. jmo

Of course reselling unauthorized duplications of copyrighted materials..... Ahem. Just don't leave a paper trail or sell 'em online.

1/2 hr a mag? Are you scanning at too high a dpi? I OCRed a full book once and it took praps 3 hours for a 700 page paperback.

I have not plans to "sell" any copies of my collection. Maybe in my younger years I would have but not now.

Maybe you could just write to the magazine company and ask them to mail you their files in PDF... It would take them mere moments...

I've been given that advice already but at the time I was already 20 magazine into the project. Oh well....... what's another 200 mags

Also I hope I get that "Jarod" (Subway) type endorsement deal..... assuming my scanner survives.

Cheers,
