The Co2 Scrubber tech info can be found here:

It has been found that home CO 2 levels are higher then normal during air conditioning and heating seasons. These high CO 2 levels are being injected into our aquariums by our skimmer air intake causing depressed pH levels. Our premium pH booster media is designed to reduce those CO 2 levels allowing the pH to rise. In normal use, the product goes from white or off-white to light blue to violet, indicates the medium is reaching or has reached its CO 2 absorptive capacity, and there is need for replenishment. If not replenished and allowed to stand unused, caustics from the core of the granule slowly migrate to the surface and neutralize the carbonic acid. In this case, the color change is reversed and the used material returns to a white or off-white color. In this situation, the media will appear to be fresh, even though it is at least partially exhausted. Media in this apparently fresh condition should be replaced and never used again, as it will change color almost immediately. Media exhaustion will be variable depending on CO 2 levels and air intake volume.
