Default Went BB Today in our 42g Hex

First of all, I'm wasted. Took down the 42g hex, removed the sandbed (thanks Richer and Newguy ) and set up the tank again on the glass, no plexi or starboard, just plain glass.

The worst part of the take down was AGAIN scraping off the bubble algae which seems to spread no matter how hygenic I make the process

Don't know how I did it, but had some LR left at the end, even without the sandbed. It actually looks pretty nice in the tank, with the glass reflecting the rock above it. Am going to live with it for awhile, until our new tanks and stands arrive, and decide if we want to go that route in all the tanks. I'm kinda thinking I will.

Had a few rocks fall during reaquascaping, but nothing major. Was careful to place sturdy rock on the bottom to hold the rock above. Did I mention how wasted I am

Wish our server was working, but Telus cut our service because we weren't supposed to run a server with our internet package Am revamping our website during the down time and will post pics of the new tanks when things get back to normal around here.

Will let folks who want more aragonite sandbed when we get there. PM me if you're interested.

Man, am I wasted

I thought it was the fumes from taking out the sandbed?

Brad,

Did it with no vodka, either

Shane,

Interesting about the fumes. I got the water about 2"-3" inches above the sandbed and siphoned out the larger pieces of detritus. Then got out my trusty plastic serving fork and mixed the entire sandbed up to off-gas some of the anaerobic gases so the guys taking the sandbed home had cleaner sand from the get go. Did it ever smell putrid and the water totally filthy

After a thorough mixing, I pushed the sand to the back so there was a gully at the front so the rest of the water could be siphoned out. Either it didn't smell that bad after the mixing and siphoning or I was suffering from the fumes

Felt a lot better after a couple of pieces of pizza, a huge cup of hot chocolate and laying on the couch for the rest of the evening. Feel even better after a good night's sleep, but am still kinda wasted....

hehe, we still need pics!

I am afraid of taking down the 120g - I can SEE the muck in the sandbed, I don't wanna smell it too!

Will try to get pics of the 42g's BB this evening

Interesting that a bit of sand was still on some of the rocks and there are little pools of sand where the water flow is lowest.

Got all my new tanks delivered today. Just waiting for the stands to be completed. Set up of new tanks will be in 2-4 weeks, depending on circumstances.

Still not sure if I will use plexi on the bottom or not. Now that we have the tanks, we'll have a closer look at them and at our experimental 42g hex. Can hardly wait to have the new tanks set up and our condo back in order. Thank goodness we have AC in this heat otherwise I'd be in the looney bin
