Default SKIMZ sk201

Well as some you you guys know I was looking at buying a new skimmer or repairing my old one for my 150g reef tank. Well I went for a new one. I got a SKIMZ sk201. I bought it while I was out of town and had it shipped to me while I was in the hotel.

So I could bore you with techincal details about the skimmer like its a 9x9 foot print and 21 inches tall, or that its rated for tanks from 100g to 250g. Or that it has the ES2800 needle wheel pump that uses 13w and draws 780L/hr of air. Or I can give you my impression of the skimmer.

Well I'm gonna give you my impressions. It showed up at the hotel really well packed. Everthing was individually wraped and well secured. I opened it up there just so I can see it, and rewraped it and it made the journey to my house with out any damage. Unwraped it at home and started to assemble it after a quick hot water bath. As I was assembling the skimmer I realized how much thought went into this skimmer. The cone body is held to the base with 4 plastic thumb screws ( gonna make cleaning it so easy) , the bubble plate is screwed onto the pump. Everthing on this skimmer comes apart. No more finding bottle brushes to clean the inside of the skimmer. The water return is out of the base, so it does not look like a typical skimmer, but so far it does not allow any bubbles into the sump.

So its been up and running for a day now and its making lots of skimmate now. I can hardly wait till it breaks in, if its making this much now. I set it up by using the instructions that came with it,but it was a bit too wet for me. I've been adjusting it, and its so easy to do. You can adjust the airflow with a small thumb screw as well as the water return by another hand wheel. Its very easy to do small adjustments and wait and see what happens.

I know you guys want to see pics of it but you'll have to wait till the end. I'm gonna be compairing this skimmer to my old standby a berlin, as well as a swc 110 and extreme 200 (I think, its gots 2 sicce 2500 on it). So here are the pics...............
