Doug they are most certainly the illustrious A. polymnus. They were sold to me by Aquarium Illusions in Edmonton as percs, however. Apparently they were brought in from Australia, although this may in fact be untrue. Apparently they are very bad shippers. However I have also heard that someone is breeding them.

Once I identified them as A. polymnus (I believe it was Deb who first noted that they didn't look like percs), I let the store know. I think they may have been aware of their mistake but everyone wants black percs (which don't even exist, what they are actually thinking of are black ocellaris) and no one even knows about black saddlebacks.

I really like mine, as they have a great deal of personality. The female is a real b*tch, and recently I have seen the male viciously attacking a large shell next to their anemone. In the past few months they have begun to do the shaky-shaky mating dance, but I haven't noticed any eggs yet. They host in an LTA, which apparently is not natural. They don't seem to know the difference. I am rather pleased as they have almost no orange on them. The female has very small patches on both pectoral fins, and the male has an off-white nose. Otherwise they are pure black and white.

There has been some good discussion on the Clownfish and Anemone forum on RC about the various types of black clowns.

Wow Quinn, very very nice. I think the LFS got in a black saddleback but it wasn't faring well so I didn't get it, sadly it was passed on the next day. Lots of interesting clowns around. I had some occilarus in my main tank and the female would remove flesh when ever I put my hand in to clean, upright or generally fix anything. My sailfin tang was afraid of her as was most every other fish in the aquarium. I think she was my ex wife reincarnated...(bad joke Sorry ladies)
