Help on interpretation on analysis of sand

I'm looking at silica sand for a DSB and was wondering which grade of sand was better according to the following link:

I'm kinda confused on the difference between Cumulative Percent Passing and Individual Percent Retained if anybody can explain it to me.

I'm leaning towards the LM70 or LM125 but not sure because of my confusion. Please help me decide.

Sugar sized is just right. If it is little bigger or a little smaller it will do.

I had a very helpful CSR at the local Target warehouse explain this to me as best they could - in the end it looked as if the LM125 had the best average particle size. And, they had samples to examine, which was helpful.

At least one other person on this board has had good results with the #125.

Now why are these guys looking for a regulator? I don't forsee sand needing to be set at 15VDC.. :D

You should also look at the Industrial Filter Sand by Target. it is described as sub-round ( as apposed to Angular) which should be better for your critters.

Good point Tau, there are some visible jaggies on the larger sizes of Lane Mtn. That one thing made me a tad uneasy. Guess I'll have to split that wet batch of Aragonite with you and be happy.

In hind sight what a person should do is line the outside edges (2 - 3") of his tank with Oolite and fill the centre with the cheap playsand and finish it off with layer of seaflor grade to cover everything up. This would give you the appearance of great looking sand bed while giving you the benefits of a more economical sand bed.
