Talking Big ProfiLux Announcment

Wahooooooo

As of February 09 GHL will be launching their ProfiLux Dali interface.

Ok I hear some say what the hell is Dali.

Dali is THE most up to date interface for lighting available, this digital interface enables you to control and Dim Dali ballasts.

Up until now the only ballasts that could be dimmed on a slow curve were 1-10V ballasts, but only 54w has ever been made in North America. But with the advent of Dali this changes everything, you can now dim/control all wattages for T5 HO.

GHL are THE only controller manufacturer to offer such a feature.

To go one step further this new technology will also be intergrated to the Fauna Marin Star Fire extreme fixtures that have the dimmable option, making this fixture by far the most technologically advanced on the market today

So in more detail what is Dali?

DALI stands for Digital Addressable Lighting Interface and is a protocol set out in the technical standard IEC 62386

DALI is a dedicated protocol purely for lighting control.

DALI is effective for scene selection and for getting feedback regarding faulty light sources. This makes it very useful to use together with building automation systems where remote supervising and service reports are required.

So what does this mean for you as a reef keeper?

Well THE most important thing is a full range of dimmable T5 ballasts, up until now we have been restricted to 1-10V analogue interfaced ballasts that are only available in 54W. DALI is available in all wattages

Furthermore, they are massively more efficient and poduce a far greater effect.

DALI is the modern leader in ballast control and interfacing, it is NOT a ballast manufacturer it is a protocol that the likes of OSRAM etc can use to run digital interfaced dimmable ballasts.

Benefits

Retrofit your T5 units easily to full dimmable
Full pendant dimmable lamps in all wattages available
No restrictions on wattages
Power savings against current analogue ballasts
longer life span of tubes
Potential of lamp interogation by the ProfiLux depending on how far Matthias wishes to push the software. (I think this will come much much later though).

The most important factor of course is now the release of all wattages in dimmable for you all to enjoy GHL's renowned lighting abilities and of course will be a leading factor in the launch of the Fauna Marin Star Fire Extreme

Well done to GHL for bringing this to the market for the clients to have such unique control system and also for Fauna to embrace this great leap in technology so quickly.

Release dates will be from 03/09 maybe before.

So is DALI a manufacturer or is it something anyone can use use. If I have a fixture that I want to retro do you buy a DALI ballast and its all over or will this be a unit controlled by the Porfilux separate from the fixture. Like a control unit being controlled by the Profilux or is it all integrated.

Thanks

Hi Good question

No Dali is not a manufacturer it is a "protocol set out in the technical standard IEC 62386" available to all ballasts manufacturers that wish to use it.

if you wish to retrofit your existing lamp you simply purchase a Dali enabled ballast from either us or anywhere else (we will have favourable pricing and do packages)

GHL ProfiLux are developing the interface to go between the profiLux and the ballast.

A Dali ballast needs a driver interface and this is where the Profilux comes in, just like the 54w dimmable 1-10V ballast needs also.

The beauty here is of course DALI comes in all ranges of wattages and has other major control benefits

OSRAM - LUTRON - PHILLIPS all make dali enabled digital dimming ballasts

To make it simpler to explain

DALI = New technology Digital

1-10V controlled Ballasts = Old analogue technology being phased out, thats why ballasts manufacturers are not extending the dimming wattage options of 1-10V ballasts

GHL ProfiLux is the first controller manufacturer to leap up to this technology and being ProfiLux you know it will be rock solid technology. Other controller manufacturers have not even launched the old 1-10V interfaces, so while they play catch up we move on to yet another level
