I think a lot of fish together look really good in the ocean.

After several years of searching I've finally located the last tang for my tank. It's a Fowler's tang, I picked him up last week. Unfortunately he's blind or atleast partially blind. This is the second one I've received that has been blind. Has anyone ever heard of this shipping blindness? There are no visible problems with his eyes. The dealer has been really good about it and is getting me another one no charge, but is a little stumped why the fish keep arriving blind. Here are some pics. It's definately my favourite tang.

i had a leaflip grouper go blind after moving it into another tank. im quite shure it poisoned its self and the others i moved it with, i kind of doubt thats what happened to the tangs but it is strange that it would happen twice.

To me it seems to be a brain issue. I'm wondering if has to do with the pH change during shipping or perhaps hypoxia. As far as I can see there is no pathogen. He has some skin flukes, but I've never heard of them causing blindness.

Wow!! That tang is gorgeous. It has very similiar colouring to the dussimier tang that you have. That definetly ranks up there with the nicest tangs I've seen.

Hows its temperment so far. Are all the other tangs accepting it??

Nice Cat 'fish'!

I'm sorry to hear about the tang. Do you know if its permanent? Hearing this just reminds me of the fact that fish "turn off" their eyes when they sleep.

Do you have any duplicate fish? E.g. harems (is this the right word?) of any particular tangs?

It's in the acclimation tank, but I dont expect it to survive much longer. He won't feed because he cant see. Such a shame.

I have two thompsoni tangs, and two regal blue tangs. Thats interesting about tangs turning off their eyes.

The fowler's tang is cool - I went to the LFS to see them as soon as I saw this one. Great thing about this fish, they also look really nice when smaller in size. I would have grabbed one for sure had smaller one's been available.
