Hi All

I picked up in some LR and it had this stuff on it - I would love to know what it is because I think it is super cool...

There are 2 of them and I think 1 might be Algae.

Thank you!

The first one I'm pretty sure is a very bright version of what is commonly simply called Yellow Polyps of the Parazoanthus sp.

The second one looks like a type of Valonia...can you "pop" it?

If it IS Valonia, you want to get it out. BUT, by popping it you cause it to spread. Either way, most green algaes are not good. If they are good (like Chaeto), they are still not good in the display tank, and are best only kept in the refugium as they get out of control.

I agree, try and pick off that algae. I had a similar one grow in my tank when I first started up and I left it alone because I was a newb and thought everything was cool. Then it pretty much got into all the LR in my tank, made a pest of itself and ended with me having to cook the rock to kill it off.

You don't know that this particular algae will get out of control or not. I believe that some algae will grow as long as the conditions allow for it. (Get rid of this, and something else will take it's place) If you think that algae looks super cool, then I would just enjoy it and see what happens. It is your tank, afterall.

For me, I miss having macro algae in my tank. I liked how it looked. In my new tank, the Tangs ate it all...
