If you're still looking for a refractometer try Aquaria Canada. Mine arrived a few days ago for I believe $45 or so.

Just use distilled water and sett refractometer to 0.

Thanks for the tip on calibrating my refractometer, but I was actually referring to my pH meter. Do you buy your distilled water from a pharmacy, i.e. Shoppers Drug Mart, etc?

Sorry, I didn't realize that there was some ph meter talk in this thread also.(No wonder I was confused as to why you where using a refractometer on your fresh water. I thought maybe for brackish or something.)

Distilled water is available at most pharmacies. (Allthough I also use 0 ppm RO/DI water sometimes.)

So to calibrate the refractometer I should put a few drops of the distilled water on the glass? Forgive me, just want to get this right.

that is correct , then adjust till everything is at ZERO

So when using the refactometer one only puts a few drops of the tank water on the glass as well; unlike when you use a pH meter?
