So, I went from BNIB to the first tank reading in about 10 minutes. By default it reads PPT / º C, changed those. Calibration was super easy, the test itself took about 10 seconds to stabilize for the final reading.
My tank should be at 78º F on the dot, Hanna reads 77.9º F. Now for the goods: Hanna HI98319 - 1.025 SG Refractometer ("calibrated"), between 1.025-1.026 SG Milwaukee MA887 - 1.027 SG I will at this point trust the Hanna more than the other two, simply because it has a traceable reference solution to calibrate off of. Debating selling the Milwaukee or just keeping it for "dirty" tank use (like the QT tanks). Happy with the purchase, the reagent box is like three times as big as the unit itself heh. Expiry on them is November 2023. I'll continue to see how things go, but I think they have a winner in this unit versus all the other "pens" coming onto the market. |

Hanna Marine Salinity Tester
I just looked up the specs for the Hanna meter , and it looks like the accuracy range is +/- 1 ppt , which I’m not too crazy about. Is this anymore accurate than a good quality refractometer ? I guess it’s still more convenient to use at least.

If you only have one tank on an Apex controller you likely would not need this tool. |

Here is my review:
The good: Quickly tested 9 tanks. It automatically adjusts the salinity for the temperature of the tanks Fairly easy to setup and calibrate Calibration is good for a month. The bad: It uses a cr 2032 battery. Not something you normally would have at home. Expensive battery. It is only precise to +or-1ppt. Would be nice if it was a little more accurate. It only uses the hanna calibration solution packs. All in all I would say for my use it is perfect. Will let you know how it goes in a couple months. The unit comes with 4 calibration packs so you do not have to rush out and buy the calibration solution. |

CR2032's are pretty cheap, can get a two pack of actual branded Energizers at Princess Auto for like 4 bucks.
