DIS Auto Top off

Hello any one interested in a DIS (Do it Someone else) I am nervous about doing it myself. I would pay for all supplies and whatever the "Builder" has in mind for his/her efforts . PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE I am leaving for my honeymoon in mid january, and really need one before then, but do not really want to put out the $100+ for a plug and play version from aquaria Canada. If someone won't build it for me perhaps they could voluteer to be my coach.

I use a humidifier float valve ... hole drilled in the side on my sump to attach it to and 1/4" line to a gravity fed water storage container ... simple but effective

I have a 28 gallon bow front aquarium, with no sump or fuge, KISS system, CPR Bak pak 2, 3 powerheads, Coralife 130 watt aqualight. I am looking at the float switch type system, using some sort of pump that would be activated by the switch that would be in some sort of container. I will be upgrading a bit to a 36 x 24 x 24 aquarium in the spring, so something I could switch over to that system would be nice.

Oh and the system is in my living room so having a container above the aquarium is not an option. It would have to be something that would fit in behind, I was thinking of a 5 gallon bucket

I don't want to knock your system, but, see if you had a sump, you could have had a 5g bucket and a $5-10 humidifier float valve and you would have had your auto topoff for <$20. Nothing un-KISS about that.

Float switches and pumps? They work fine, but that's not KISS!

On my 50 gallon FOWLR I built this auto top off system. It is a 5 gallon water jug from Canadian Tire which I tapped a valve into and a humidifier float mounted in the sump to control the level. I used a scrap piece of glass siliconed into the corner of the sump so I would not have to drill into the sump itself (I was concerned about breaking it). I used a dremel tool to make the hole. I had room enough in the cabinet for the water jug. I built a small shelf for it to sit on as high as I could place it so it just gravity feeds. There is also a vent tube on the jug to allow air in as the water drains.
