hmm not a conch, doesn't look like my nassarius. I would be willing to guess whelk. at any rate maybe someone else will recognize it.

I have one of those in my tank, and I just chalked him up as some sort of conch. It doesn't harm my corals though

Conch has two eye stalks.

That looks like the whelks in JL's.

My tank is full of these, at full grown, they are about 1". They don't seem to hurt anything, I was told they are just a different species of nassarius.

Thanks Em, to me it looks like a Nassarius on Steroids .

It is some type of whelk and is probably carnivorous.. I have several similar looking dudes in my tank and they don't seem to do any harm. Dr. Ron could not give me a possitive ID. I have found them feasting on dead snails or leftover food before... though there is a strong possibility they are eating microphauna and such as Dr. Ron suggested.

Thanks Adam. I couldn't get a positive ID but a Whelk sounds good to me. He's just in a tank w/ LR right now, so I guess I'll just throw him in the sump when I upgrade .
