Default NSW

Our ocean waterhas slightly less specific gravity as well as potential toxins, including pollution, pathogens etc.
If you search this board you will find a couple of threads on the subject.
But I like reef_rafs comment: ( apx) After spending thousands on a reef ,you want to save like 5 bucks a week on salt? and subject your reef to the hazards and variables of NSW???.......

Not if it has gasoline or oil or who knows what in it.. The problem is you have no idea what is in it, so it becomes risky. It could be fine for a year and one day, wham!! You wipe out your tank. Synthetic salts are really good these days, and for the most part consistent. I personally wouldn't dump water in my tank that I just found at the beach. Whos knows where it's been
