Default Checking water parameters

Hi fellow reefers,

When do you guys check water parameters such as nitrates, phosphates, alkalinity etc. before of after a water change?

Let me know

I check mine in between water changes (although not very often anymore) to see if my water changes are adequate to keep levels were I want them. I can then adjust my next water change to suit the conditions.

Depends on what you want to achieve with your test. If you want to determine consumption, test before. If you want to determine a dosing plan to restore parameters to desired levels, test after a WC. Personally, I test before so that I can make changes to my dosing, then do a WC and dose my corrections and assume my corrections have fixed things. I test monthly-ish.
