Location of your Tank

Ok im curious as im trying to find a spot for tank. Where did everyone put there tank? and what size is it?

I have a 125gal with 67gal sump and so far It seems the only place I can put it is near the outside wall where my patio is. the joists run below it and are 2x8's with 16" spacing, so it seems like the best bet. All the rest of the places are bedrooms/offices where it wont be viewed as much.


So my question is where did everyone else locate there tank? Is it top floor, bottom floor, extra room, what?

Mine is on an outside wall in the dining room. I have an open concept dining/ Living rooms so you can see it from both. My thought is why put it some where I don't spend time. I started this tank to view it.

I put mine on an inside wall its a 75 g. I wish I had prepared the wall first as the saltspray is eating the paint away at the bottom. Next time I will do an outside wall.

I live in a 4-plex so I put my 90G in my basement which is our living room and on the other side of the wall is my 50G sump.

We live in a 4 plex as well but on the top level (its 4 different units) so below us is nothing but the other units dinning/living room, no walls or supports

one in each bedroom (29g) living room(175g will be replaced with 270g) spare room (34g) hint for any tanks in bedrooms check water levels before bed as i makes for a rather rude alarm clock

Mine is living room, top floor. I have a full length closet directly below the front and it's against a support wall at the back.

Previously we had a 125g FW with approx 175#s of gravel and 50#s of rock against an inner load-bearing wall on our second floor. The wall is constructed of 2 x 6s over a trippled 2 x 6 doorway, so it's really strong
Even with 2 x 12 floor joists we had some deflection across a 13' wide room
Now, with our 75g on that wall, and the sump equipment in the room on the other side of that wall, there is virtually no deflection at all

I had an engineer, and a contractor friend, look @ our construction
The contractor friend said you'll be fine as long as you don't have a livingroom full of friends over for a party and bouncing on the floor
The engineer said it will not pass a stress test based on his software

Lasted over a year before we sold the tank, but we could make the water move if we wanted to

My original 210g reef was in the dining room area but we rarely spent a lot of time in the dining area so my main reef now (165g) is in the living room area where we do spend a lot of time. We can enjoy it sitting at the couches or standing in front of the tank.

Wherever you normally spend a decent amount of time is usually a good place to position your tank.
