They take a lot of playing around to get the colour where you like them. My schedule (controlled via profilux) goes like this:
Dimming points: Regular blues: 9:00 - 3% (they overnight as moonlights at this level) 13:00 - 40% 18:00 - 40% 22:00 - 3% Royal Blues: 9:15 0% 13:00 - 40% 18:00 - 40% 21:45 - 0% Daylights 9:45 - 0% 13:00 - 40% 16:00 - 50% 18:00 - 40% 21:15 - 0% |

Mine is similar
8:30am 3% both blues white at 0 10am they slowly have climbed to about 25% for all by this time 12:00 whites 35% blues 40% It stays like this til 5, then starts to teeter down to just blues and by 11 they are off, In this time my fuge light will turn on at about 9:45 I'm still playing around with it but my tanks only 15"deep so I have them lower

If so many people are running these lights at less than 50% of peak... why can't people raise them up higher and get away with fewer fixtures at 100%?

You easily could depending on the lenses and tank, I would if I had a larger tank go with the 70 degree optics

Exactly my thoughts. If I use less units, higher up, at 100%, don't I get the same results??

all interesting replies surprised that no one has still passed the 50 threshold
still looking for a setup that would keep the moonlights on at night and have a nice color in the tank |

I got 2 ai blue over a 75g at over 1 ft. I still find the white intense and has bleached sps at 65% white, most sps is under 6-8" of water and Lps at the bottom.
My lighting period is: 3am to 3pm W-0 B-2 RB-3 lunar cycle on 3pm to 5pm W-12 B-18 RB-24 45 min ramp 5-7 w-20 b-28 RB-34 45 min ramp 7-10 w-45 b-68 RB-76 90 min ramp 10-12am w-25 b-30 RB-40 45 min ramp 12-2am w-8 RB-18 45 min ramp 2-3am w-0 b-2 RB-3 30 min ramp Still dialing it in and may change the lenses to all 70% as bleaching is still around.... I also get indirect sunlight during the mornings to afternoon through a few windows to the right side of the tank. I recently added 2 t5 for supplements with Fiji purple and they come on from 6pm to 12 am to see what kind of colors my sps and montis will have.....
