Permanent Aquascape?

I'm working on dry aquascaping a new tank with Marco rock and wondering the pros and cons of making the majority of it rather permanent. I would be siliconing the Marco rock in solid as the base rock.

I've always had the best luck with tanks that I keep my hands out of and this would help with that.

Any suggestions are welcome, just want to make sure I have thought of all the details.

I wouldn't do silicone I would try epoxy or acrylic rods/tie straps only problem with permanent aquascapes I can see is you can't change it onces its done as well as moving rocks to get at stuff.

mine is permanent, I used the epoxy for rock, mind you my aquascape is quite small, but the epoxy allowed me to stack them nearly 15" high(the height of my tank) with no concern

I'd do a healthy mix of both.

Permanent the caves and just stack the foundations.

This is all similar to my line of thinking. I like the advantages of both but don't want to create any problems.

I will soon be posting some pics on my build thread but I have managed to shape over 100 lbs of Marco rock so far. I've used a diamond wheel to flatten the sides mating with the glass and chisels to form the joints.

I may pre-drill several holes in the base rock to accept live rock additions and changes. It will be nice to have a very solid foundation to build off of.
