Default Nate's 500 gallon Shark tank

Hey guys,

As some of you may know, I run an aquarium maintenance business in Calgary. About a year and a half ago, my wife and I had just found out that we were expecting our first child. I took it upon myself to finish our basement in our bungalow to give us more room. I started about 3 months into her pregnancy and finished 2 weeks before our daughter was born. I had decided that we needed a home theatre and a rather large fish tank in the plans. We already had a finished bathroom down there, but nothing else. Here are the tank details.

Tank -96x36x32 peninsula style tank (viewable from 2 sides

Sump - approx 6feet x30 inches

Filtration - 36 watt turbotwist UV
Hydor 3000 skimmer
Eshopps snowcone 200 skimmer (pulls more than the hydor)
Eheim heaters
Eheim 1262 return pumps

Flow - Tunze wavebox
2 x koralia magnums 6 and 8 I think

Lighting - Kessil LED my new personal favorites. I have sold about 100 of these in the past couple months and have had nothing but rave reviews!

Other - Tunze auto top off

Here is the stocklist and I am fully prepared for the flaming

3 epaulette sharks (harem 2 are 22 inches, 1 is 18)
2 salifin tangs (5 inches)
4 YEllow tangs (3 inches)
1 Vlamingi tang (7 inches)
3 Regal tangs (5 inches)
1 Chocolate tang (4 inches)
1 Convict tang ( 5 inches)
2 Blochs tripodfish (2 inches)
1 Emperor Snapper (7 inches)
1 Maroon Clown (4 inches)
1 Broom tail Filefish (8 inches)
1 FAn belly filefish (2 inches)
1 Foxface (6 inches)
1 Doliatus Rabbit (6 inches)
1 Blue line Rabbitfish (6 inches)
1 TWin spot coris Wrasse ( 3 inches)
1 Pompano ( 3 inches)
8 Big Eye Soldiers (2 inches)
3 Striped Big Eye Soldiers (3 inches)
2 popeye catufa Soldierfish (4 inches)
1 red tail filefish (2 inches)
1 Wild caught sun rise dottyback ( 2 inches)
1 miniatus Grouper (2 inches)
1 Parrot fish (3 inches)
1 speckled hawkfish (3 inches)
1 Harlequin Bass (2 inches)
1 porcupine puffer (2 inches)
2 cleaner shrimp

Just waiting for the lights to turn on to get some pics!

The only thing I would worry about is adequate filtration. Sharks alone are hard on a system and you are above and beyond that.

Good luck. Interested to see this.

Ps. .. At least you never said 180g. People always post min tank for sharks. :P

I wonder... does anyone care enough to read signatures if you make them really small? I would not. I would probably moan and complain, read three words and swear once or twice. But since you made it this far, please rate my builds.

Haven't had any real issues with filtration. Due to the tank stocking levels, water changes are required pretty regularly. Tank gets between 200-300 gallons a month changed depending on time constraints. I have managed to do a full 100 gallon with a 6 month old sleeping strapped to my chest!

Nitrates stay around 20 ppm

Default Forgot to add

Also forgot to add.

There is also a thomasii tang in the tank.

And the tank is fed with...

Frozen: Hikari krill, Hikari jumbo mysis ( fantastic product), Hikari regular mysis, and both spirulina and regular brineshrimp. Cocktail shrimp, and
Hikarinsilversides for the Larger fish as well.

Dry: nori, marine a pellets from Hikari, seaweed extreme pellets also Hikari. Tetra colour pellets, and a tiny bit of new life spectrum.
