Default Advice on AI SOL?

Hey guys, soon I have to replace the bulbs in my 6 bulb tek light so I am contemplating going to the AI Sol but I have a couple of questions.

1. The tank they are going over is one of my old frag tanks that is 48x24x12 and is a mixed reef, would 2 be enough?

2. Assuming a very obvious question but I do like a less blue more white look so I am assuming going the sol white is the clear choice.

3. Is there any better options than this for under 1000?

4. What is the best place to buy them? Anywhere local, or good sites with free shipping?

Thanks in advance guys, I really appreciate the help.
Tony

His post is the one that got me thinking about it, I called his store but there was no answer so I figured I would post on here. I will try to call him again later as well.

I had a similar question as your so I'm guessing that your going to need 3 of the Sol units on a 4 foot tank depending on if you have a center brace or not.

I think it depends how much of your 4 foot length is actually rock. If you have end to end rocks then you'll need 3. But if your rock is mostly centered then you can get away with 2

I have no centre brace and the majority of my corals will in the middle of the tank, well all of them within 6 inches of either side of the tank. I have little rock to try to create a more open look in the tank.

Thanks!

All depends on what you want to keep. I called ai direct for my 300, and because I am setting it up for all sps they sugguested 12 units which I thought its gonna be over kill. I ran 3 on my 210 with it hanging 16 inches awl just to test them out, I was pleasantly supprised on the coverage and how the corals are reacting to it. Compare to 3x250 and 4x80w t5 it was definitely dimmer but if I take out the t5ho it's almost identical coverage and brightness. I know 2 on a 48" with mixed reef will do just fine(12"-14" awl) 3-4 on a sps, lps tank(>12" awl) if you need more reference just check out ai's website, they do offer a guide chart for number of units.

3 places to get your AI's
Concept $368 5%tax(AB)
Modular $389 5%tax(AB)
ocean aquatic $377 12%tax(BC)
