![]() At last it is possible to replace metal halide lighting in a saltwater reef aquarium with something just as intense but uses half the power. The Ecoray 60D fixture provides the light intensity of 250 watt metal halide without the heat production and power drain. The housing of this fixture is 100% aluminum and measures 14” x 8.5” x 2.34” with a fan installed in the top, so it functions as its own heat sink. One of these fixtures will draw 62 watts of power at .6 amps. The life expectancy of the bulbs is about 50,000 hours which works out to running your lights 12 hours per day for a little over 11 years without replacing bulbs. In a metal halide fixture, you are replacing bulbs once every 10 months and the bulb draws 250 watts of power for the same amount of light this 62 watt fixture can give you. The savings really adds up between using far less energy and not having to replace bulbs, typically one of these fixtures will pay for itself in about a year and a half of use.
The light spectrum of this system with both the blue and white lights lit up is roughly equivalent to 12,000 to 14,000 K. This fixture also has the wonderful advantage of giving the same shimmering water effect that a metal halide provides, and fluorescent fixtures do not. The Ecoray 60D is very capable of growing both hard and soft corals, including acropora, as well as clams. With the reduced heat output, many systems which currently require a chiller will no longer require the use of a chiller, further reducing the cost of setting up a reef aquarium as well as reducing the cost to run an existing aquarium. 30 White High Power 1 Watt LED, color temperature 5500 K – 6500 K 30 Blue Actinic High Power 1 Watt LED, Wave Length 450 – 470 nm Combined color spectrum makes this fixture 12,000 to 14,000 K equivalent 62 W, 120 V – 240 V, 12 foot dual electrical cords Built in Fan All Aluminum Housing 14” x 8.5” x 2.34” Weight 8.2 pounds Supporting L brackets and hanging wire included 500+ PAR at toward the center of the projected lighting (SPS corals) 150+ PAR around the outer edges of the projected lighting (LPS and soft corals) Examples for recommended quantity, if your aquarium is a reef aquarium:

![]() Call me crazy but if each LED unit equals a 250w Halide would you really need 3-6 fixtures on a 90?.. I can't imagine anyone having 6 - 250w halides on a 90 gallon tank.

![]() The reviews of this light fixture says that the light is really focused, so you won't get much spread. Unless you suspend it 2 feet above the water. This results in a really spotty effect if you only have 2 lights over a 48" tank. Not a lot of people will want to mount it 24" above their tank. This is cause the reflector for each led uses a 60 degree lens, making it
Really focused, resulting in the high par values. |
