Hey Mike,
Triggers will prey on inverts...there are some exceptions to the rule ofcourse...some may leave them alone if the inverts were there first but as a general rule...they are not invert safe. There are many who have kept a trigger successfully in a reef but it is always a risk. |

Blue Throat Triggers are one of the types that are considered more reef safe. I have mine in with shrimp and smaller fish without issues. I have added shrimp after having them in there and they didn't eat them, so that is a good thing. The trigger is probably only 3 inches right now though, so I'm not sure with age if that might change. From what I've read on reefcentral, it is pretty rare for them to go after fish/inverts that are already in the system. If you are considering one, your best bet is to make sure you don't plan on getting small fish/inverts after they are added.
Also, 125 gallons should be a minimum tank size for them as they can get quite large. For whatever reason, my female hasn't really grown in over a year. She definitely gets her share of food, so it's not from lack of food. Also, if you can get a pair, they are known to interact a lot together. I am looking for a male for my female, but don't see them very often in Edmonton. The one I did see wasn't doing very well, so wasn't for sale.
