What makes some coraline algae turn white?

Add more magnesium

you should make sure calcium,carbonates,and magnesium are within range

Aside from those, it doesn't take too long for coraline to die if it is exposed to air. Light, temperature, chemistry, anything that suddenly changes from what they are normally used to can cause it to bleach.
