Fishing in Lower Mainland BC

I'm planning fishing for the first time ever next week & have a few questions...

1) Does anyone have any tips in the Lower Mainland?

2) I know the rivers are closed for June but how are the lakes?

3) Where is a good place to do some coastal fishing?

4) Where is a good place to lay traps & get some nice shrimp/prawns?

I pretty much want some good white meat fish but don't mind salmonids.

I know pretty much zip about fishing & I thought I'd ask you guys before I feed myself to the sharks in the fishing forums

If you don't mind going to Hope you can fish Silver Lake, mostly small fish but the occasional honker. If you go up further and you want to fish for sport the Skagit is great. Otherwise Merit.

For the coast you can fish the Capilano and even Rice Lake is stocked with catchables.

I'll try Silver Lake, Rice Lake & probably Cultus Lake as it's close by.

How is Cultus this time of year? Stocked? Large Small?

Be sure to read the BC Region 2 regulation. Note that Silver Lake is catch and release only with a bait ban and a requirement for single barbless hook only.

I want to eat what I catch so maybe Silver & Cultus are out for me right now.

Any tips for catches with good eats? (assuming this rookie catches anything at all)

Myself, I enjoy natural surroundings when I am fishing so I prefer lakes in the wilderness such as Weaver Lake (stocked with trout), and Lightning Lake in Manning Park (not a stocked lake but has resident trout). For others, the surroundings are not important. In that case, urban lakes such as Como Lake and Lafarge Lake are productive for a few weeks after they are stocked.

The lakes at Sasquatch park (Hicks, Deer, Trout) are supposed to be productive. Rolley Lake in Mission is another popular one.

During the day, the trout are near the bottom so placing Powerbait a foot or 2 above the bottom should work well. I've found that trout are most active near sunrise and sundown. During those times, float fishing works better since they are feeding at the surface.
