My Long Nose Butterfly Fish decided that he'd try taking a bite out of a manilla clam that I sometimes feed my tank with. Only this time the clam decided he'd bite back!

Poor old Butterfly had his long nose stuck!

After trying to shuck the clam without stressing the fish out too much, he decided to leave a tiny part of his bottom lip behind & released himself.

Was the funniest thing I've seen in a long time but I kinda feel bad as he's a bit damaged now

Next time I'll not be lazy & open the clam first...

He's now sulking at the back of my tank. Hope he's okay.

yes! but it's my hand that gets slapped not my nose!

I'm feeling kinda bad. The Butterfly seems really out of sorts at the back of the tank. Nose down, not moving very much & breathing heavily, been like that for an hour now

Hope everything works out ok. So these clams you feed to the tank are still alive? Wouldn't this happen quite often if your fish were tying to eat them?

I throw in a handful of clams to my mantis when I go on vacation.
very handy for fresh food haha

I usually open them up but this time I tried just throwing one in (last time I did it, the raccoon opened it up pretty quickly).
