Couple Questions

Hey everyone,

so I just got two questions here.

We just bought a few new things from the LFS, we got a fox face and green bubble tip anemone in particular that have me asking these questions.

For the GBA, how do you guys usually get them to seat themselves? He has some algae kind of stuff that came with him that hes kind of holding onto as well that make it hard to put him down on something. Ideas?

With my foxface, we have a Tomini tang that we've had for 2 months Id say and he seems to really dislike our foxface that we just added.

First off, the foxface is pretty dumb and keeps going in his territory between two tight rocks and because of it the Tomini seems to react. Other times they seem ok. Anyone know if we have a bad combination here or anything?

As far as the BTA goes you can try and put something over it (like a sour cream container etc.) over it to keep it from free floating throughout the tank...hopefully by morning it will have taken hold of where you would like him and again, hopefully it will stay there for you...

tangs are almost always aggressive towards new fish of similar size/shape...you can try and place a small mirror against the glass...this will hopefully distract the Tominni long enough for the foxface to settle in....you could try turning the lights off(may help with the nem settle too)...though this is usually just a temporary solution...or you could do nothing and let them sort out the pecking order(usually takes a few days)...as long as the foxface isnt getting relentless harassed and is able to eat, I wouldnt worry too much yet

I think the pecking order slowly will get sorted out, the foxface isnt getting harassed that much, just mostly when he goes into the Tomini's obvious territory which is a small cave.

I've got the flow off on the tank right now for the BTA to settle in but Im not sure if he's really grabbing on to what we feel is an ideal spot haha. Im sure he disagrees, apparently... I'll try these two techniques though, thanks.

I think BTA will move around until it finds the perfect spot for it. Even if it already attached to the rock, it will move if the flow or light is not right for it. Very hard to physically attach BTA to anything because it is so slimmy.

The BTA seems to have found a spot, it moved a couple inches to the left of where we put it and seems to be staying.

Also the foxface and Tomini seem to be getting along a lot better now too. Havent seen any fighting really at all today.

My BTA has moved very little in the several years I've had it. Maybe I got lucky, dunno. But I have read, and the current location of my BTA seems to corroborate, that they do like to situate themselves in a slight hollow/depression of the LR. If you have something like that, facing upwards towards the light that would help. Sounds like it's found a spot now though, so I wouldn't mess with it unless there's a danger of it encroaching a prize coral that might get stung. Never a sure thing with an anemone though, they sometimes just decide it's time to roam, regardless of what we do.
