canopy photos - updated
just some photos of my canopy. sorry about the bad quality. now i have to hook up the lights, and i'm pretty much done. dad seemed pretty excited about being in the shot...
  edit - now just gotta wire it all up...        and for fun, some pics of my caulerpa growth...

 i totally hate that poster, but it's pasted to the wall. the evaporating salt water was causing it to wrinkle but i expect with the canopy that will stop. the guys on the bikes are totally 80's style, really cheesy helmets and no suspension fork (even kids have suspension forks these days). not nearly as cool as canadian man on his ultra-light, overly-expensive road bike would you believe that when i was young, i wanted a mural of a reef on my wall like joeys only near mcmahon used to be, but this was before we moved, so i couldn't, and then i got out of the whole fish thing until... last december... and now my cousin has an awesome mural, and he's not even into fish (freakin volleyball players). and i'm stuck with cheesy mountain bikers. don't get me wrong, i ride as well, but the poster just doesn't work in my room...the canopy is 16" high. the stand is a good 36", the tank is 30", therefore you're looking at a total height of about 7'. i have to stand on a stool to see over the top (i'm 5'11" and 15/16ths). the entire front opens, as you can see, and on top is just a piece of 1/4 plywood, so i can access it that way if i have a step ladder. i'll hopefully finish it completely tonight (handle on front, 2x4 horizontally to hold the lights up, put the lights in, wire them up)... if i get that far, you can count on more photos.

Looks great, I am in the process of doing mine right now! What will you be mounting in the canopy and if you don't mind can you tell me what you will be doing for heat exchange? Do you have fans or an open back at all? Looking forward to more pics when set! Rob PS: Hey, I used to ride those unsuspended bikes you nasty whipper snapper! I remember when I was young, you'd have to ride your bike up the hill, you had a "Hite Rite" seat adjuster for downhills and the only suspension were your wrists and knees!

i had an unsuspended bike for years until i finally convinced my parents to lend me money for a hardtail. then i promptly stopped riding.
 gotta get back into it soon though.i have two ~5" 120v fans from princess auto. they will both blow in one side and i will have vent holes on the other. i have yet to decide how to hook them up. i was going to splice them into my lights but i think i'll just run them on a seperate timer. i'm also going to put eggcrate in front of them, because the entire canopy will be closed, to discourage fish jerky being found a year after "processing" behind my tank.

why did you decide to go with a completely closed unit? Are you not worried about heating? Please let me know how those fans work for you once you get them going, I'm curious to hear how they compare to others. I just picked up a couple of the Ice Cap temp controlled fans for my canopy. I'm still worried about heat though, I really do not want to have to buy a chiller! Our tank is in the living room so noise was a big consideration. What type of lights will you have in the canopy? NB, I think that my first MTB was an old Norco Bigfoot, back in probably 1988, oh how time flies!

just finishing drilling holes for the fans.
completely closed so no fish escape. the system was partially built around a snowflake moray, and now a dwarf golden moray, but either or, both are escape artists. my tank is in my bedroom i've been sleeping with earplugs since i filled it. it's quieter with the canopy, should be able to sleep with it now.i've got dual 400w 10k halides, running on a TAR PFO ballast. no supplementation, but room in the canopy if i decide to add them.
