Powder Blues...?

Hey guys

just curious as to why powder blues are so hard to take care of??

ive had mine for a couple months
and ive battled ick with him twice now, and now im battliing black spot
lol
this is not any fun with him
any ideas as to make things easier with him?

I dont have too much experience with PB but this is my third one that I have kept. do you have a cleaner wrass/shrimp? Agree they are "ich magnet" every time I put my hand inside my tank he gets ich all over him but it goes away in couple days, maybe my cleaner wrass, cleaner shrimp, and or my fire shrimp is doing their job.

i have 2 cleaner shrimp
and honestly im not trying to prolong the life of the fish im trying to get rid of the ick all together
lol
so i gave him a freshwater dip and then put him in QT with ick meds and now hes just laying on the bottome of the tank???

i know they are hard fish to keep but up until today ive not had this hard of a time

wow who the hek you got him out of your tank? I tried so hard!!! but no luck. maybe I have him in my reef tank. trust me I dont really want him anymore either cuz I cant add any fish in my tank anymore because of his bold attitude(copperband killer), hes the king of my tank now and yet the smallest fish besides my gobies. well hope hes ok after a few hours, good luck dude.

well it was not fun i had to take the whole tank apart and take all the rock out as well
and then i put the rest of the fish in a 90 gal beside my dt
so i could get the ick out of my DT

Your tang is stressed from the ich in the main tank, the stress from its capture and transfer into a freshwater dip, and the medication you have given it.

Hopefully, the salinity, temperature and PH is the same in your QT. If not adjust it slowly.
What medications did you use and were you 100% precise in the measurements. If not use carbon to remove the meds from your QT.
The lights should be off in the QT and the tang should have a place to hide.

Put a bubbler in the tank so there is lots of oxygen. Feed garlic extract soaked food.
Except where absolutely necessary avoid approaching your tank to 'see if it is still alive' as you are only stressing the tang further. Observe it from a distance.

It is good that you removed the powder blue tang. These fish often do well for a while than get sick and die in the tank often taking the powder blue's tankmates with it.

i used exact measurements for the neds its called ick-x
and the lights were off in that part of the hosue and i was staying away but in any case it died within 3 hours of moving it to the QT

So disappointed

my thoughts exactly about the fourth aswell
they are to gorgeous a fish to keep trying over and over

so anyways im gonna keep fish out of my DT for about a month to get rid of the ick
will the inverts get ick by the way?

I am sorry to hear this. You tried your best to keep it alive but it is an extremely difficult fish to keep. Please do not replace the Powder Blue with another.

You should be treating the fish in your tank because they will have ich and will also be stressed.
Soak your food (preferably dry food because it absorbs more) with garlic extreme or garlic extract and selcon. Feed very often and do this for several weeks.

You have had enough experience to know that you should not tried another after the first one died and the second one died.

Cleaner wrasse another extremely difficult species to keep alive (how many have you tried) and cleaner shrimp have nothing to do with keeping your third attempt alive.
Cleaner shrimp will along with a garlic extract regimen, QT assist in preventing an outbreak.
Please don't try a fourth!!
