Can someone tell me what this is?
Sorry about pic quality. I found this in my sump yesterday while trimming my cheato. Its pink, has many sticky, ball tip tenticles, and can eat small mysis. It has a foot, but hasnt moved as of yet. Bout the size of a pencil eraser. Any ideas, good or bad? ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Caribbean Mushroom,Pseudocorynactis a coralimorph, I've never heard of them harming anything when they are only small - Most people find them just minding their own business behind a rock or in a sump.If you read online there are mixed reviews though, some people think they can cause problems. there is a larger species (orange ball anemone) that has been reported to eat fish but I think it's like 6" with bright orange balls, not pink or white
Not sure if that helps but I think the ID is correct. I'd try googling the name and see if the pics match. Last edited by Keri; 10-12-2008 at 08:39 AM. |

They look like what are commonly called "Orange Ball Anemones", which aren't actually anemones at all, but corallimorphs (mushroom corals). But...I could be wrong.

Keri, Chef:
After a bit of reading I'd say you were right. I'm gonna leave it be for now as other than pods, Cheato, bristle worms, and a few sponges I dont have anything else in my sump. Gonna keep an eye on it though. |

I have them too, they seem to prefer the sump (or maybe something I have eats them out of the display). Never been anything but an interesting thing to spot at night for me .. totally harmless I think.
