there are many things i can improve to get rid of my algae but I am wondering who uses snails and crabs at the density of the "recommended" 1-3 per gallon??

Most online sources say something around that number when selling "algae clean up crews" I have 2 asteria snails and about 5 big hermits in a 70g I don't think that is enough. I have zero algae eating fish. Should i get a rabbit fish? do they really help significantly? all my nutrient levels test zero...I read that reef central article on "vodka dosing"..any one trying that experiment?.. getting a better skimmer will be my last $$$$$$$$$$$$$ option. |

Rabbit fishes can get quite large, a small one would be ok. You may want to consider a Lawnmower Blenny as well...

			 What kind of Algae?

If you're talking Hair Algae, it usually means you have phosphates in you tank. What kind of food do you feed your tank? Do you use R/O water? for critters I like to have a mixed snails: Turbo, Cerith, Margarita, Trochus, Nassarius, and Nerite. You should get at least 5 of each. I stay away from Hermits because the tend to kill snails.

I use R/O water and have fluidized phosban reactor full of media. I feed flakes and frozen cubes of sea food mix.
