![]() I would like to see if anyone has a simple idea for a DIY Ozone Reactor? I would assume using a venturi pump to get the water "bubbling" into a piece of PVC could work...well not just like that but along those lines. I could just buy a super cheap calcium reactor but I would prefer to avoid that.
If you did go with the calcium reactor method to miz ozone into the water, would you still need to use and oxygen tank with the reactor? I guess also a small skimmer used only for ozone could work. I do not want to use my skimmer BTW because I have heard it can really effect the performance. Thanks for any help! |

![]() I have spent the past 4 weeks trying to get a low cost Ozone Reactor for my tank. I would recommmend if you can find a cheap skimmer that you can inject into this would be your quickest and easiest way. Of course you can order the MTC one ($500) or the Aquarium Connection one (you'll need a money order and it takes a while to get there). I haven't seen many DIY plans available, but the concept itself is fairly simple. I have been wondering if a Phosban reactor could be used as it can take a small amount of pressue..
Good luck and keep us posted with your findings. |

![]() I would still recommend the ALS for what you get for the price they supplied all the plumbing pieces as well.
Here's what they supplied with the reactor. ![]() But it's just basically media kind of like bio balls sealed in an acrylic tube with 3 holes tapped for the fittings. If your handy with acrylic it probably wouldn't be to hard to make.

![]() How have these reactors worked??? I am still interested in a DIY if anyone has any ideas. I have heard that you can make one pretty easy out of PVC. I guess its just similar to a phosban reactor but bigger. Im not sure though.
Would it really have to be very big though? Ozone only lasts a few seconds in water, so the contact time would not need to be very long I don't believe. And as long as the outlet from the reactor runs through carbon, it should be fine. I was actually thinking of building it so that the output goes directly to a phosban reactor I have laying around but instead of phosban media, just using carbon in it. Not sure how this would work though. Any ideas would really help! |
