Grab at least one extra weapon in the beginning and then slowly find survivors. Once you have at least 2 survivors, start building your weaponry.

I would recommend the hunting rifle as it KOs nearby zombies and sometimes shoots through others. The chainsaw is unreliable because you can't replenish it.

After a while, I just end up using machine guns to blast them away. Be advised that you lose survivors so try to replenish them once in a while.

what do you mean you can't replentish the chainsaw? I've gone whole levels with just the chainsaw.

The other "trick" is that if you take the pump action shot gun, when you run out of shells, start reloading and hit the esc key to pause the game. You keep reloading when in pause...
