Sounds pretty serious.

State of emergency declared, Power is out, lots of landslides.

No reports of casualties though as far as I can tell, which is the most important. No tsunami either.

We have good friends out in Hawaii. Guess we'll be giving them a call soon (if we can get through)

I have been in a 7.2 quake (on the 11th floor in a hotel, at 2am) and I can tell you it is scary stuff.

But for what it's worth, I'm watching CNN still, and for the most part it sounds like things are a mess, but for the most part things should settle out OK. I.e., people are a bit shaken up (no pun intended), power is out so people are inconvenienced, maybe a few injuries. Hopefully that's all it is.

I fixed my link. It was directing people to some San Diego newspaper not CNN. Sorry about that.

Anyhow I hear power is coming back now. Hopefully things are going to be OK.

But, it does sounds like things are settling somewhat.
