For the last month or 2 I have been battling brown/green snot (AKA DINOFLAGELLATES
) It grows on the glass, heaters, intakes and powerheads. But so far I don't have any on the rocks or the sand. It does not seem to bother any of the corals or fish just me. I have decreased my light to 6 1/2 hours a day, turned up the skimmer a bit to get more watery skimate and of coarse more water changes. I have been blasting the stuff of the glass to go through the skimmer and weekly dipping and cleaning the powerhead and heaters in vinegar. I have been changing 1/3 of the water every week and It seems to slow it down for a day then it comes back but it is never better or never worse there always is the same amount whether I leave alone of clean it off.I am almost at my wits end with this what else can I do? I have heard that using Erythromycin will get rid of cyno will it work for dino also? Before you ask I am using good old tap water just like I use in the other tank with no problems, and I will do some tests in a bit to let you know how everything is running

i had recent luck leaving my lights off for a week.
my tank is in the basement so it gets no ambiant light at all. I turned the lights on for about 15m a day to feed the critters..seemed to work well for the time being...

What do you treat your water with? Is your green snot a true green or is it more of a brown-green?

I heard phosban works well with these guys. Caused by excess nutrients I believe. Know anyone close with a phosphate testkit?
I'd personally be worried about my corals in a lights-off situation. Might be worth it to try for a day or two days. take a before and and after photo and see if there is any difference. All your tests look fine to me. I'm about 95% sure that its a water quality issue unfortunatly. |

Also check for you Alkalinity...When I had Cyano I found that I had low levels of Alkalinity...Once I raised the levels it seemed to go away!!
