water storage and mixing tank

I had a need for more space in my furnace room, so the RO/DI system was the obvious choice for relocation. Problem was, where to put it. The only other suitable location was in our laundry room. I did not want it to just be an open exposed mess in there, so I made plans to remove the existing plastic sink and replace it with a sink and cabinet to house the water system. This meant that I would need something other than the Rubbermaid Brute containr I had been using for mixing too.

I aquired a used 50 gallon sump through the listings here on Canreef. I set to work removing the baffles that were in it and reusing them to divide the tank into two sections: one for plain RO/DI to refill my TO containers, the other for saltwater mixing. I installed two toilet fill valves to control the filling of each compartment from my Aquasafe RO/DI unit.

I drilled the tank and fitted bulkheads into each compartment for pump intakes. These are plumbed to a common pump, with valves for selecting the desired choice of water.

There is a powerhead and a heater permantly set up in the mixing side.

I built the cabinet and countertop to house the tank and installed it with a new stainless steel sink. The RO system is located under the sink and feeds the two tanks and a pigot by the sink. The cabinet is designed to allow acess to the tank by removing the front panel. Normal water changes and TO refills are accessable from the doors under the sink.

There is also now a nice spot to setup my QT tank. Iam also planning to build and install some more upper cabinets now to store my aquarium supplies and such.

Ok so here the deal. You need to book about a week off of work and come up to my place and set up a similar system for me and while you are here you might as well organize the mess I have now with extension cords running willy nilly etc. etc. etc.
Seriously great job and it looks so nice and clean.........oh yeah I need someone to come and just do a general clean up around my tanks as well - some cabinets would be nice!

thats a really good idea and takes up a lot less space than two brute cans

Well darn, I am just wrapping up the last few days of my holidays this week. Too bad you didn't request this sooner.

Wow! Looks great!
Have you used the toilet floats for the RO water before?I heard they don't work on ultra pure water as the density is lower than SW or household water. You may want to add some high density foam to your RO float to prevent a flood.
If you do have a problem let me know. I am building an auto top off that will use a solenoid valve and a float switch to prevent this from happening.
