Default Pump advice for 45g

Submersible pump for a 45g SPS tank. Is a mag 7 or 9 what I am after ? I don't know about too much flow through the sump (33g) with no baffles, although I can probably MacGiver something for bubbles.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Are you going to have any powerheads in this tank? How far up is the tank from your sump?

Hi Rich, yeah I can do powerheads for sure. The 45g is on these stilts...ie eye level... I think about 3' for the return from sump.

You could just use an Aquaclear 802 powerhead for your return. I did that for my old fuge setup. With a headloss of about 3 feet, I'm guessing I got about 100-200gph... I know Harvey uses an 802 for his tank's return. The lower flow would help prevent excessive bubble formation.

Rich, I don't know why I said 3', it's more like 6'. I was looking at the 802's I have - how do you deal with the top hole on the nozzle ?

Deb why not have those hagen powerheads that push around 900 gph, and have them plumbed in the sump with 1" clear flex hose and have a piece of 1/2" pvc with a few 90's to make it hang over the tank.

That os what Doug uses and i have had it rigged for my old 75 gal too with out a sump its very quiet and when i had my old 75 gal sps going there were no sump and i made a fake overflow with the PH plumbed from the over flow looked pretty cool

That's a Hagen 901 right Mike? Where did you get it - I can't seem to find them anywhere but Marine Depot, and they don't ship USPS to Canada.
