![]() Hello,
Are those snails (live of course) you can buy in a bag at superstore for $4 something reef safe? |

![]() I bought a bunch from a fish market and they were cold water(round black/brown shells) snails, which only lasted for about 2 weeks.I seem to remember a post on here awhile back about the "market store snails".You could try one or two and see what happens.

![]() Cold water snails will not stay alive long in a reef tank. They'll just die hidden in your rockwork and cause you ammonia spikes.(and great headaches) It's like putting those baby crabs you find at the beach under the rocks in your tank. They won't live long. Their metabolisms are not geared for warm waters.

![]() I've adapted some little neck clams to live in my colder 20g (70 degrees) then moved them over to my FO tank as filter feeders/emergency rations for the fishies.
I have one in the FO for 6 months now & two in the 20g for 5 months. Anthony

![]() I bought a tank once with substrate intact and there was a live littleneck clam in there. Unfortunately, once I found it and dug it up, it died shortly thereafter.

![]() This brings to mind a thread a while ago about starting a temperate tank. I wonder if anyone has done this yet?

![]() And,
You could potentially always have a fresh source of seafood on hand! Hmm, what do I feel like eating tonight... I'll just stick my hand in the tank and see what I get! |
